FAQ

What exactly is the quilling technique?

Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is actually “manipulated” in order to create all different shapes and as different colors are used, quilling is like drawing with paper.

How did you decide to go into paper art?

I have been excited with paper craft since school but since my admission to the University of Piraeus, the birth and upbringing of my two children, plus my full time job, I had to leave it for a very long time. Of course I always found the opportunity to do this by helping my children with their crafts at school that brought me great pleasure.

What made you start working on paper art again and particularly on quilling?

The last few years had been very difficult for me. The difficulties made me reconsider many things in my life so I decided that from now on I would do things that give me joy and pleasure, things just for myself. And one of this is paper art and especially quilling, as it has amazing benefits both for kids and adults. It is incredibly relaxing and calming and also wonderful for helping build mindfulness, not mention that it reduces anxiety.

How long does it take to create a paper artwork?

It depends mainly on the design and the size of the artwork. You can spend   long hours to several days, even weeks. In any case, it takes a great deal of concentration and precision in the movements because once a piece of paper is glued you can’t remove it. If it is necessary to be removed you must do it straight away, otherwise the background will be damaged.  So, the whole process is, most of the times, very slow. One mistake and … oops!!!

How you decide the theme or topic for your art project?

Mostly, on the spur of the moment, unless if I am asked to make something specific.

What kind of paper and tools do you use?

I use different types of paper but I mostly prefer heavy paper (more than 120 grms) because it is easier to “manipulate” it.

As for tools, I love my scissors, my PVA glue, my ruler, my circle ruler, my cutting knife and of course, my slotted tool.

How can someone buy your artwork?

I recently started a collaboration with Jamjar, which is active in the sales and promotion of original
handmade works of art by Greek artists https://www.jamjar.gr/store/PaperU
